A History of Service
Southwest has a unique history in becoming one of Northern New Mexico’s leading healthcare providers, with facilities in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. The company was founded in 1996 to work with patients living with HIV/AIDS.

Management soon realized the need for even more healthcare options in the area and looked to expand well beyond this focus, although that mission of providing excellent HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment remains. Southwest Care’s international reputation for outstanding research and compassionate treatment soon set the company apart in the Albuquerque and Santa Fe communities.
Southwest Care continued expanding its offerings to meet patient needs throughout the region including opening the Jefferson Clinic in 2017. Since that time, the facility has provided primary care, HIV and Hepatitis C services, behavioral health, and pharmacy services to patients around the Albuquerque area.
Community Focused
Along with offering a wide range of services, Southwest Care’s Jefferson Clinic plays an important role in the community. Staff members and physicians live in the community and understand the needs of those around them. That recently included enhancing the company’s call center operations, a focus for customers.
“Our patients spoke, and we listened,” Southwest Care CEO Michael Adams says. “We have extraordinary personnel in our call center who endeavor to deliver a timely and personable patient experience over the phone, and we have now obtained the expertise necessary to ensure this process is improved via new technology, procedural improvements, and workflow changes. Our goal is to increase phone access for patients to meet their needs in a timelier fashion.”
That sense of community and meeting patient needs carries over to helping those who may be uninsured or underinsured. Everyone visiting any Southwest Care facility, including the Jefferson Clinic, will receive care no matter their ability to pay. Southwest Care has a sliding fee discount for these patients and those who qualify will pay only a nominal fee for services. That commitment to all residents of the community is a key goal.
“Southwest Care Center, a not-for-profit corporation, has been a healthcare leader in New Mexico for 27 years, and today serves more than 11,000 patients,” Adams says. “We are accepting new patients and encourage everyone who desires to live their healthiest life to check us out at southwestcare.org or schedule an appointment by calling us at 505-955-9454.”
